Our Big Fat Indian Wedding: The Planning Process and Bachelorette Party

In between the Chunni ceremony in October and the wedding week in May, was a lot of planning. Fortunately, I LOVE planning.

There were invitations to collaborate on:

fall weekends in new paltz (pt. 2)

My last post about New Paltz was getting a little long, so I decided to break it up into two parts. These pics are from several different trips.

fall weekends in new paltz (pt. 1)

I'm a little late to the game, and after years of going upstate, only recently "discovered" New Paltz. While I love the Catskills and Adirondacks, it doesn't always make sense to make the drive for short weekends. Fortunately New Paltz is just over two hours away, a reasonable drive for those weekends when you only have one free night to get away.

dumbo arts fest 2013

While this year's D.U.M.B.O. Arts Fest had some really great installations, it fell a little short compared to last year's.

We still had a great time though and glad we went.

This was pretty cool -- An image of birds on a telephone wire was projected onto several walls in the corner of a warehouse, and when you called the number at the bottom left, you got a recording of birds squawking and the birds flew off the wire in the projection.

uncommon views

nyc summer streets brings the closure of seven miles of streets from central park to the brooklyn bridge. along with these closures come some views you don't normally get to see.

ichabod crane statue in sleepy hollow, ny

i've passed the statue of ichabod crane on route 9d in sleepy hollow several times, and finally decided to snap a pic of it. reminded me of that time in staten island when i saw where colonel ichabod crane was buried.

super moon over brooklyn

not to be confused with the blue moon over brooklyn, i took this pic of the super moon from my roof on june 23, 2013.

THE woodstock field

i'd lived in ny state for about six years before i learned that THE woodstock field is actually nowhere near the town of woodstock; it's in fact clear across the other side of the catskills,  in a town called bethel, about an hour and fourty minutes' drive west and south of woodstock the town. after living in ny for almost ten years, i finally had the chance to visit THE field.

Camping at Bear Spring State Park

this trip marked the second time i'd camped at bear spring mountain, the last time being over five years prior. needless to say, this trip was a bit more relaxing than the previous one.

rain room at moma

the rain room at moma is an awe-inspiring immersive environment of falling water that pauses wherever a human body is sensed. the result is walking in the rain, completely surrounded by falling droplets, and not getting wet.

cemeteries in the snow

national cemetery, salem field cemetery, cemetery of the evergreens, and knollwood cemetery in the snow.

snow in bed-stuy

i'm normally not a huge fan of snow. i don't mind it while it's coming down (snow globe!), and i LOVE a full on blizzard, but the aftermath of a typical snow in brooklyn is messy and depressing. the streets get plowed and create mountains of ice that block your car in, there are slush puddles of street runoff and garbage at every corner that freeze at night, and drifts on the sidewalk that at best conceal dog urine and feces, and at worst a dead body. (it's brooklyn, use some imagination.)

fortunately this past snow was the best possible scenario. it came down hard, and was wet enough to stick to every surface, seemingly defying gravity... and then, just when it started to get messy, the sun came out and melted it all away.
